Passive Income Through Blogging

Generating passive income through blogging can be incredibly challenging but at the same time insanely rewarding if you manage to develop a website which produces high quality information and in turn has a strong view count.  This article is going to focus on how to obtain an income once you have regular visitors to your website and wont cover how to generate traffic.

There are a few income streams available for bloggers and content creators through their website. They are as follows:
– Google AdSense
– Amazon Affiliates
– Click Bank
– Sales Funnel

One of the first things I want to talk about here that by using the top 3 items listed being AdSense, Amazon Affiliates or Click Bank, traffic is drawn away from your website and to an external site. If you want people to read your content and stay on your website for a while then sending them to external websites is the exact opposite of what you want.  But if you are only trying to create affiliate income and that is your goal then yes this strategy can work, but for those people who want visitors to come and stay on the website and read a few posts or articles then maybe creating your own internal sales funnel would be better. Anyway I digress, lets get into the various methods and provide a broad overview of each one.

Google AdSense

Google AdSense is an advertisement platform hosted by Google which places relevant ads on your website and generates income when visitors click through to the links.  Now it is not that easy to get approved by Google AdSense and they have a lengthy review process that can take a few weeks to hear back from them. Regardless I will do an in depth Google AdSense review in another post.

How many monthly views do you need to generate AdSense revenue?

As I sit here asking myself – how many monthly views to your website do you need in order to make passive income through AdSense or other methods. So I decided to do some research in order to report back to you on what I found.

The answer is it is not dependent on views to get approved. I have seen AdSense approves websites with 115 views and 2 comments, whereas others with 30+ posts 1,000 views get denied. You need to ensure other things are correct and disregard the view count. Here are the common reasons why people get denied (note page views is not on this list):

1. Poor content
2. Poor design
3. No privacy policy
4. Not in compliance with AdSense policy

As long as you have covered off on the above AdSense will approve you and then you can start generating AdSense revenue. Another thing to keep in mind is that there is a $100 minimum for payout into your payment means.

How much does AdSense pay per 1,000 views?

I am using some rough figures that I obtained from some reputable websites and YouTube videos on this topic. One blogger suggested they are getting 44,074 Visitors for one month, and then when you compare their Google AdSense results it showed them receiving $186.24 for that very same month. So when you divide the Google AdSense income by 30 days in a month it equates to = $186.24/30=$6.2 per day. Now this may not seem like a lot, however it is constantly receiving this every day. Hopefully the website continues to grow and that $6.2 per day becomes close to $10 a day and then $20 a day.  Therefore to answer the question on this example for 1,000 views Google AdSense would pay you $0.14 per day.

Amazon Associates

Another method for generating passive income through blogging is through Amazon Associates. This is probably the most popular affiliate program on the internet, and what it does it after signing up and being approved, you can search for any product which amazon sells online, they give you a special link for that product which you put on your website, and then when a viewer from your website clicks on the link and buys the product you get a small commission.

The commission rates are as follows at February 2019:

Product Category Fixed Standard Program Fee Rates
Amazon Fashion Women’s, Men’s & Kids Private Label, Luxury Beauty, Amazon Coins 10.00%
Furniture, Home, Home Improvement, Lawn & Garden, Pets Products, Pantry 8.00%
Apparel, Amazon Cloud Cam Devices, Amazon Element Smart TV (with Fire TV), Amazon Fire TV Devices, Amazon Echo Devices, Ring Devices, Watches, Jewelry, Luggage, Shoes, Handbags & Accessories 7.00%
Headphones, Beauty, Musical Instruments, Business & Industrial Supplies 6.00%
Outdoors, Tools 5.50%
Digital Music, Grocery, Physical Music, Handmade, Digital Videos 5.00%
Physical Books, Health & Personal Care, Sports, Kitchen, Automotive, Baby Products 4.50%
Amazon Fire Tablet Devices, Dash Buttons, Amazon Kindle Devices 4.00%
Amazon Fresh, Toys 3.00%
PC, PC Components, DVD & Blu-Ray 2.50%
Televisions, Digital Video Games 2.00%
Physical Video Games & Video Game Consoles 1.00%
Gift Cards; Wireless Service Plans; Alcoholic Beverages; Digital Kindle Products purchased as a subscription; Food prepared and delivered from a restaurant; Amazon Appstore, Prime Now, Amazon Pay Places, or Prime Wardrobe,Purchases 0.00%
All Other Categories 4.00%

The important thing with the Amazon affiliate link is that when the viewer clicks on the link and goes through to Amazon, even if they don’t buy anything before closing the page down, the cookie which is placed on their browser is valid for 24 hours and if they return back and purchase anything (not just the product you have linked) you receive the above commission based on the relevant category. Therefore even if they aren’t buying your products but are at least clicking through to amazon you can get affiliate commission.

I guess the only bad thing with Amazon affiliates is if you build up this huge website based on generating amazon affiliate commission and then they decide to ban you because of any number of reasons, there goes your entire business plan. Hence you are relying so much on Amazon to create passive income, and a more reliable passive income source would not be reliant upon external parties who control your earning capabilities.

Click Bank

Click Bank is a similar system but offers a much wider variety of products which you can sell, all you need to do is sign up and search for relevant products which you can promote on your website. The commissions can be much higher on Click Bank.

Sales Funnel

A sales funnel is often used for say an E-book or an online resource that you have created. People search for something on Google, get sent through to your landing page and then follow through some examples on why they need your product, after reading this they get put in a situation where they can buy your product if they want. A sales funnel is very efficient if you can position yourself in a strong situation and where the customer see’s value and a need for your product.

This way of website creation or blogging can be highly efficient as you are coming up with problem which needs a solution and then you are presenting that solution to someone. This is different to a book review or a book comparison where you are not solving a problem for the customer.
